Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers to the questions we hear most often from people exploring working with us.

Getting Started
The initial consultation is completely free of charge. It is an opportunity for us to understand each other and determine the potential for a beneficial partnership. No strings attached, no obligation to proceed.
Whatever is most convenient for you. We can meet on Zoom, have a conversation on the phone, or meet in person at our Fairfield, NJ office. We work with clients across New Jersey and beyond.
You may not need one, much like you may not need a personal trainer or a dietitian. However, having one can make the journey to and through retirement significantly smoother. We bring education, experience, and ongoing attention to your financial strategy so you can spend your time on what matters most to you, not on figuring out complex withdrawal sequencing or rebalancing rules.
We work with affluent individuals and families, business owners, and pre-retirees who are thinking seriously about retirement income, Roth conversion strategy, and long-term wealth management. Our clients generally share a preference for a hands-on, personalized advisory relationship over a one-size-fits-all approach.
Working With Us
A fiduciary is legally and ethically obligated to act in their client's best interests at all times. That means we cannot recommend products or strategies that primarily benefit us at your expense. It also means we must disclose any conflicts of interest. Obligation to the fiduciary standard varies depending on your advisor's licensing and the specific services provided, so we encourage you to ask your specific financial professional about their fiduciary status.
After your initial consultation, we will request relevant financial documents to develop a comprehensive picture of your situation. We then build your personalized financial plan and present it to you before anything is implemented. From there, we move at your pace.
We typically schedule formal reviews at least annually, and often more frequently depending on your needs and preferences. Between reviews, your advisor is available for questions, life-event planning conversations, and market-related check-ins. We believe in proactive communication, not reactive.
Roth Conversions & Tax Strategy
A Roth conversion involves moving money from a tax-deferred account (like a traditional IRA or 401k) into a Roth IRA. You pay income tax on the converted amount now, but future growth and qualified withdrawals are tax-free. Whether this makes sense for you depends on your current tax bracket, expected future rates, timeline to retirement, and estate goals. It is one of the most powerful planning tools available to pre-retirees, but it requires careful modeling. We encourage you to discuss your specific situation with a qualified tax professional as part of any decision.
For many clients, the window between retirement and age 73 (when required minimum distributions begin) is the most valuable conversion opportunity. Income tends to be lower in these years, meaning you may convert at a lower tax rate than you will face later. Every situation is different, and timing depends on a range of personal and tax factors.
